Adolescence can be especially difficult for young people who have experienced trauma, significant stress, emotional difficulties, or substance use concerns.
Teen Seeking Safety is a structured, trauma-informed treatment approach that teaches adolescents practical skills for becoming safer in their thoughts, emotions, relationships, and behaviors.
The program focuses on coping skills that teens can begin using immediately.
Topics may include emotional safety, healthy relationships, boundaries, communication, managing difficult emotions, recognizing triggers, asking for help, coping with urges, making healthier choices, developing self-respect, and building hope for the future.
An important feature of Seeking Safety is that teens do not have to discuss traumatic experiences in detail in order to benefit from treatment.
The emphasis is on building skills and improving present-day safety and functioning.
Who May Benefit?
Teen Seeking Safety may be appropriate for adolescents experiencing trauma-related symptoms, significant emotional distress, substance use concerns, or a combination of these issues.
An assessment helps determine whether this program is appropriate for an individual teen.
