At Maumee Valley Guidance Center, treatment is more than simply talking about problems.
Our clinicians use evidence-based and evidence-informed approaches that have been developed and studied to help people address behavioral health concerns.
The approach used will depend upon the client’s age, diagnosis, symptoms, goals, preferences, and individual circumstances.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a psychotherapy approach frequently used in the treatment of trauma and post-traumatic stress.
EMDR helps individuals process distressing experiences and reduce the emotional intensity associated with traumatic memories.
Unlike some traditional approaches, EMDR does not require a client to repeatedly describe every detail of a traumatic experience.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps individuals understand the relationship between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
Clients learn to recognize unhelpful patterns of thinking, develop more effective coping strategies, and practice behaviors that support improved emotional well-being.
CBT may be used in the treatment of anxiety, depression, trauma-related symptoms, anger, substance use, and many other concerns.
Motivational Interviewing — MI
Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative counseling approach that helps people explore their own reasons for making changes.
Rather than telling an individual what they should do, the clinician helps the client examine goals, concerns, values, and motivation.
MI is commonly incorporated into substance use treatment and other behavioral health services.
Seeking Safety
Seeking Safety is an evidence-based treatment approach developed for individuals experiencing trauma-related concerns and substance use.
Treatment emphasizes present-day coping skills and safety rather than requiring detailed discussion of traumatic events.
DBT-Informed Treatment
Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills may be incorporated into treatment to help individuals improve emotional regulation, tolerate distress, strengthen relationships, practice mindfulness, and respond more effectively to difficult situations.
Solution-Focused Therapy
Solution-Focused Therapy emphasizes strengths, resources, goals, and practical steps toward change.
Rather than focusing exclusively on problems, therapy helps clients identify what is already working and how those strengths can be expanded.
Person-Centered Therapy
Person-Centered Therapy is built on empathy, respect, collaboration, and belief in the individual’s ability to grow.
The therapeutic relationship provides a supportive environment for clients to increase self-understanding and work toward meaningful personal goals.
Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-informed care recognizes that trauma can affect emotional, behavioral, interpersonal, and physical health.
MVGC strives to provide services that promote safety, choice, collaboration, empowerment, trust, and respect.
Not every treatment approach is appropriate for every client. Your clinician will work with you to determine which approaches best fit your needs.
